Global Address Finder API

Help customers pick an address in your form. Search for suggestions, let the customer choose one, then fetch the full address for their selection.

  1. Send the address or postcode the customer has typed in input. You get a list of matching suggestions. Show the list and let the customer choose an address.

Example: the customer chooses this suggestion

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC, USA

    place_id: example-place-id

Keep the chosen suggestion’s place_id and the search’s lookup_id. Send both IDs in the next request so Provero can show the search and details together.

  2. Send the chosen suggestion’s place_id and the returned lookup_id to the details endpoint. You get the full address, with separate fields such as town, postcode and country when available.

Example: send that same ID in your next request

    { "place_id": "example-place-id", "lookup_id": "a0b8b7d2-c618-4a27-8d83-481b560cbb65" }

Use the returned address to fill your form. formatted_address gives you the address as one string; the structured fields let you fill individual inputs.

For address validation

Finding an address does not confirm it is correct or deliverable. To validate it, send the returned formatted_address in address.addressLines to the Global Address Validation API.

Try the two-step lookup

Open a step below for request fields, code and response examples.

1. Find address

Search for suggestions, then let the customer select one. Pass that suggestion’s non-empty place_id to step 2; the examples use example-place-id for the same address in both steps.

input string 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Yes Search input echoed in the response.
mode string address Yes Effective search mode: address or postcode.
suggestions object[] [] Yes Suggestions for an address picker. An empty array is a successful lookup with no matches, not an error.
suggestions[].place_id string|null example-place-id Yes Identifier to pass to Get address details. May be null when unavailable; only allow selection for resolution when a non-empty identifier is present.
suggestions[].text string 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC, USA Yes Full suggestion label, or an empty string when unavailable.
suggestions[].main_text string 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Yes Primary display text, or an empty string.
suggestions[].secondary_text string Washington, DC, USA Yes Supporting display text, or an empty string.
suggestions[].types string[] ["street_address"] Yes Place categories; may be empty. These are not validation verdicts.

Error structure

Field Name Type Example Always Present Description
message string Unauthenticated. No Authentication, request-validation or billing error message.
errors object {"input":["The input field is required."]} No Field errors for HTTP 422 invalid requests, rejected before lookup without charge.
service string address No Billing service identifier in HTTP 402 responses.
required_amount string 0.0460000000 No Required charge in HTTP 402 responses; the example rate is illustrative.
current_balance string 0.0000000000 No Available balance in HTTP 402 responses.
requestError.serviceException.messageId string Address validation request failed. No Service access or lookup failure message. HTTP 403 indicates denied service access; HTTP 422 can also indicate an unconfigured lookup service. Other service failures use the returned HTTP error status.
requestError.serviceException.code integer 502 No Service error code. Inspect the HTTP status as well; this is not a validation verdict.
requestError.serviceException.errorCode string service_access_denied No Optional machine-readable service access error code when supplied.

2. Get address details

Retrieve structured details using the place_id selected in step 1. Include its lookup_id to record both requests as one lookup journey in Provero. Invalid links return HTTP 422 before lookup. Handle missing address details before displaying or submitting them for validation. An invalid or unavailable identifier can also produce a service error rather than an empty success response.
